Jeanne Katherine Graziano Magri

Jeanne Katherine Graziano Magri

Jeanne Katherine Graziano Magri (née Thone) of Calabash, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 10, 1938.

Jeanne was predeceased by her two beloved husbands, Ronald P. Graziano (October 2, 2009) and Joseph J. Magri (January 11, 2026), as well as her parents, John and Juliette Thone.

Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Jeanne was raised in Teaneck and attended St. Anastasia Elementary School in Teaneck and St. Cecilia’s High School in Englewood. She treasured her childhood and high school friendships throughout her life and spoke often of her fond memories of “Saints” football games, parties, and dancing.

Jeanne earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education, with a minor in Psychology, from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1960, and later completed her Master’s degree in Reading Education from William Paterson University.

Jeanne dedicated her life to education and the growth of others. She began her teaching career in Bergenfield, NJ, where she taught second grade, and later specialized in remedial reading in the River Dell Regional School District and at St. Joseph’s Middle School in Oradell, NJ. She spent many fulfilling years teaching sixth grade in Glen Rock, NJ, where she was known for her patience, warmth, and commitment to her students. Everyone loved Mrs. G!

Above all, Jeanne was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Michael Graziano (Reina), Janice O’Neill (Michael), Diane Bednarz (John), and Suzanne Roche (Michael). She was the cherished “Momu” to her 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She taught many of her grandchildren to read and enjoyed playing games with them and watching them play sports. When Jeanne and Joe married later in life, Jeanne lovingly embraced the extended Magri family, including 10 more grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. As an only child herself, Jeanne found tremendous joy in her very large, combined family.

Jeanne’s faith and compassion guided her life. She was an active member of her church community, serving as a Eucharistic minister, choir member, and participant in Bible study groups. She also co-led the Creative Spirit prayer group, where she lovingly crocheted hats, shawls and blankets for those in need.

Her commitment to service extended well beyond her church. Jeanne volunteered with Literacy Volunteers of America, teaching English as a Second Language in Westwood, NJ. She also dedicated her time helping DREAMERS complete their DACA applications, offering both practical support and encouragement. In her local community of Highland Lakes, NJ, she was known for her friendly presence as a beach badge checker.

Jeanne will be remembered for her friendship, kindness, generosity, deep faith, and unwavering dedication to helping others learn and thrive. She leaves behind a deep legacy of love, service, and quiet strength that will live on in all who knew her.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in July, with interment at Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne’s memory may be made to Homes of Hope India, an organization close to her heart, at homeofhopeindia.org.
