Obituary
Jerry M. Barefoot, 85, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and complications from pneumonia.
A 1959 graduate of Smithfield High School, Jerry went on to attend college before beginning his career as an engineer in the oil fields of Libya, where he worked for two years. Upon returning to the United States, he built a successful career in the telecommunications industry, working for AT&T and later Atlantic Telephone until his retirement.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Golden Barefoot and Juanita Barefoot, his beloved granddaughter, Krystal Barefoot, and brothers Dan and Tan Barefoot.
He is survived by his devoted wife of more than 36 years, Glenda Johnson Barefoot.
He also leaves behind his children: Lisa Barefoot Old and her husband, Brad; Kevin Barefoot and his wife, Brenda; and Brian Barefoot and his wife, Carey.
Jerry was also a loving stepfather to Pam Little and her husband, Ricky; Tammy James and her partner, Burwin Mercer; and C.J. Renfrow and his wife, Kim.
He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandfather of 8 great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he treasured the time he spent with them.
Jerry will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his remarkable work ethic, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. Through his years of hard work, kindness, and perseverance, he created a lasting legacy that will continue through the family he loved so deeply.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, love, and support shown during this difficult time. Jerry’s memory will be cherished always by those who knew and loved him.
