Joan Elizabeth Stockton

Joan Elizabeth Stockton

Joan Elizabeth Stockton (Hession) passed away suddenly on February 15, 2021 at 72 years old.

She is survived by her husband Jim, and three children Brian (Jennifer), Lindsey (Jerome), and Claire; grandchildren Ryan (Jordan), Tripp, and Reagan, and her siblings Margie and Peter.

Born and raised in Long Beach, NY, Joani graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a degree in Education.  She met the love of her life Jim on a blind date and after they were married, they relocated to Atlanta, where she worked in the public school system and raised their three children before retiring to Sunset Beach, NC.  She enjoyed hobbies such as shooting pool, boogie boarding, bird watching, and playing tennis and racquetball.  She had a love of riding dirt bikes in her early years, which led to owning and riding Harleys, including multiple cross country adventures with Jim.  She had a fierce love for her family and friends and wasn't afraid to stand up for what she believed in.  She was the most kind and caring soul and left her mark on anyone she met.

People who knew her will never forget the impact she had or the lessons she taught, and her legacy will live on through her loved ones.

Rest in peace, Joani/Mommy/Nana.  We love you forever.
