Obituary
Joanne Emily Wehrly, 88, of Calabash, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 10, 2026.
Joanne was born on January 31, 1938, in Fulton County, GA, and was the daughter of the late Jesse Herndon and Essie Hankinson Herndon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Paul Wehrly, Sr. which they shared 54 years of marriage and her son Richard Paul Wehrly, Jr.
Joanne held many jobs throughout her life which consisted of working for the Social Security Administration, the FBI Clerical Pool, and being a Morse Code translator for the FBI in Puerto Rico. She also volunteered for the Juvenile System in Baltimore, MD. She loved a good debate and talking about politics.
Holding many jobs throughout her life, the most important one was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and a great-grandmother. Joanne was a person that loved deeply and was deeply loved. She was always wanting to help others, no matter what the circumstance was. Joanne was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Joanne is survived by her children, Randall “Randy” Wehrly, Anna McLamb (Jerry), Desiree Cluck; grandchildren Jennifer Berry, Victoria Wehrly, Joey Wehrly, Patricia Marshall, Rebecca Marshall, Nicole Wehrly, Amanda Wehrly, Richard Wehrly, III. and Cory Wehrly; great grandchildren, Tyler Berry, Desiree Berry, Jazmine Anderson, Brandon Wehrly, Krystal Marshall, Skyler Stanley, Sarah Creech, Hope Medlin, Jerry Medlin, Madison Lewis and Bentley Wehrly.
Joanne leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and compassion that will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her. Friends and family will deeply miss her, but will remember her calling them “sugar”, which will bring a smile upon them.
Honoring the request of Joanne, there will be no local services at this time.
