Obituary
John C. Aklan of Oak Island departed this life on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at age 73.
He was the son of the late John and Ruth Aklan, brother of Phyllis Johnson of Pennsylvania, and uncle to Kent, Cyle, and Brian.
John was born and raised in New Jersey, and he always dreamed of spending his retirement in North Carolina. An early retirement allowed him to fulfill his dream.
John was a member of the US Air Force and served as a flight line mechanic. Later, he became a hospital engineer and served in that capacity at Childrens’ Specialized Hospital, then at Brunswick Novant Medical Center. He also served as President of the New Jersey Society of Hospital Engineers.
His pastimes included fishing, boating, golf, bowling, and softball.
John was a member of the Oak Island Elks’ Lodge, serving two terms as Exalted Ruler.
John will be greatly missed by so many, but none more than his beloved wife of 48 years, Diana Aklan.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
