Obituary
John Dillard Pettigrew Jr. affectionally Known as “Dad, John Boy and Papaw”, age 67 of Supply passed away on Wednesday December 30, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family after fighting Glioblastoma cancer for several months.
He was born in Gastonia, NC on December 2, 1953 the son of the late John Dillard Pettigrew, Sr. and June Thomas Pettigrew. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Thomas “Tommy” Pettigrew, Sr.
Mr. Pettigrew was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a Supervisor for UPS in Charlotte for many years. He retired from the Post Office in Shallotte. He never met a stranger, loved being around people. He loved the outdoors, being around nature and drew strength for what God had made. He was a member of the Woods and Water Hunt club, a member of the Brunswick County Long Beards and a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was a previous member of Tri-Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed capturing wildlife photos for North Carolina Candid Critters.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Donna R. Pettigrew of the home; a daughter, Brandy Leigh Farmer and husband, Tim of Rock Hill, SC; a sister, Nancy Ryan and husband, Kevin of Charlotte; 3 grandsons, Thomas Pettigrew, Joey Farmer and Jake Farmer; and last but not least, his dog “Levi”.
A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM Monday January 4, 2021 at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte Chapel by The Reverend Jason L. Benton officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
