John Hafer Herbine

John Hafer Herbine

It is with deep sympathy his family communicates the passing of John Hafer Herbine age 78, of Calabash, NC (previously Schnecksville and Emmaus, PA), on February 9, 2021.

He was Born in Reading, PA on October 1, 1942. He was a son of the late William James Herbine, Sr. and Mildred Grace Hafer Herbine. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Carol Mae Goepfert Herbine and his daughter, Lynn Carol.

John is survived by his wife Margaret "Peg" (Stroup), brother William James Herbine, Jr. and wife Doris of Reading, PA, his four sons, David John Herbine and wife Lynnette of Glenmoore, PA, Jeffrey William Herbine and wife Veronica of Whitehall, PA, Kerry Paul Herbine and wife Jenise of Kingman, AZ and Gregory Scott Herbine and wife Kimberley of Macungie, PA. In addition, John is survived by his stepson Travis Stroup and wife Carol Ann of Palmerton, PA. and stepdaughter, Melissa Stroup Geiser and husband Bradley of Orefield, PA. John is also survived by his seventeen grandchildren who he loved, cherished and were a great source of pride for him. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews from the Herbine's (Chris, Tim, Andy and extended families) and the Goepfert's (Mindy, Debbie and extended families).

John was very proud of the Herbine family history and lineage from The Alsace-Lorraine region of France/Germany to Oley and Bern Townships, Berks County and specifically his roots at Good Shepherd UCC in Tuckerton, PA.

John was a graduate of Kutztown State College with a degree in Math Sciences. He had a long and distinguished career supporting and leading the computer transformation and information management with various companies and affiliates within the Bell System of companies. His commitment and work ethic afforded him an early retirement for which his family was so grateful. We were happy he was able to enjoy the fruits of his labor in the sacrifices he made for his family.

John was the first Eagle Scout of Troop 155 at Good Shepherd UCC. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a long-term member of Locust Ridge Hunting Club in Clinton County, PA. He was also an avid golfer and had many friends at The Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood, PA, The Allentown Municipal Golf Club in Allentown, PA and The Brunswick Plantation in Calabash, NC. Thanks to his friends of the outdoors and in golf for sharing with our father.

Rest in Peace Dad!
