John L. Peele (Johnny) of Sunset Beach NC died in his home, surrounded by his family on October 1, 2017. He was 70 years old. John was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years Jean R. Peele of Sunset Beach NC and 3 children; Melissa Helton (Neil Joyner) of Wake Forest NC, Julie Davidson (Kevin Davidson) of Willow Spring NC, and Brandon Peele of Willow Spring NC, his six grandchildren; Zane Helton, Kennedy Helton, Cole Davidson, Ephraim Peele, Wyatt Peele, and Hannah Peele and his puppy Chuck.

John was born on March 29, 1947 in Hamlet NC. He is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Jane Peele, sisters Mildred Belton, Rhunell Hodges, Dorthy Earp, one surviving sister, Martha Byrd.

John loved boating, fishing, hosting cookouts, and spending time with many friends and family.

John served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded two campaign metals, a Vietnam Service Metal and an honorable discharge from the US Navy. John continued his dedication to his country as a past Commander of The American Legion Post 49 and lifetime member of the VFW. John retired after 30 years as a Locomotive Engineer from CSX Railroad.

A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 A.M, Friday, October 6, at the River of Life Baptist Church. Burial will be in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Thursday, October 5, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte.
