John Michael Boyle
Obituary
John Michael Boyle, beloved son of Anthony and Grace Boyle, passed away peacefully at home with his devoted wife by his side.
John graduated from St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, New Jersey, and Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Everyone who knew John remembers him as a history aficionado, a man who could fix anything, and someone immensely proud of his Irish heritage. In business and negotiations, he was honest to a fault, often to the chagrin of his CEO. What he may have lacked in subtlety, he more than made up for with his brilliance.
John was a mechanical engineer who retired as Senior Vice President of Engineering at Curtis-Wright Flight Systems. Over the course of his remarkable career, he earned a commendation from NASA for his design work on Rockwell International’s first manned space shuttle Columbia, and contributed to the development of critical components for nuclear submarines, the Sikorsky Black Hawk and Seahawk helicopters, the F-14 Tomcat, the Lockheed Tristar, the USAF B-70 Valkyrie, and Boeing 747, 737, 757, and the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft. Despite his extraordinary résumé, he embodied humility, never boasting about his achievements.
His devotion and love for his wife, Rosemary, of over 60 years, set a rare and inspiring example for all who knew them.
In his later years, John was deeply devoted to his grandchildren, proudly babysitting them and attending countless sporting events, high school plays, and birthday celebrations for all 13 grandchildren each year. In 2021, he became a great-grandfather to Grey, whom he loved holding and watching grow.
John loved golf, bowling, playing cards, bridge, and bocce. A proud American, he had a deep respect and admiration for his country. His second greatest love, after his wife Rosemary, was reading—losing himself in countless stories and far-off lands. On Sundays, he would begrudgingly hold his breath, watching the Giants try to secure a win—a testament to his unwavering loyalty.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary; his daughter Maryanne and son-in-law Richard Franzis, along with their children, Ashley Breunich and her partner James Scott, Katie Breunich, and James Franzis; his daughter Kathleen and son-in-law Mike LaBarbera, and their children, Micaela and Samantha LaBarbera; his daughter Eileen and son-in-law Francis Pio Egan, and their children, Laura, Megan, Frankie, and Annie Egan; his son John and daughter-in-law Sarajane Boyle, and their children, Mollyjane, Jorie, Colin, and Jack Boyle; and his great-grandson, Grey Breunich-Scott.
He is predeceased by his parents, Grace and Anthony; his brother, Hugh; his sisters, Maryellen and Catherine; his father-in-law, Bud Bostel; his mother-in-law, Anne Bostel; his brother-in-law, Jack Bostel, and his wife, Loraine Bostel; his nephews, Patrick Lee and Tommy Bostel; and his niece, Maureen Lee.
