John Michael Sullivan, 73, of Sunset Beach, NC., formerly of Danbury CT, passed away on May 20, 2017.

John was born on January 20, 1944 in the Bronx, NY. to the late Daniel and Cathrine Sullivan. He was also predeceased by a brother, Daniel J. Sullivan and a sister, Cathrine Sullivan.

Sulli, as he was known in his youth, was remarkably devoted to his wife and three sons. A family man, first and foremost, he made all his choices around their well-being and happiness. Julie and the boys came first- period.

He stood out in ANY crowd as a gentleman, a loyal employee, and a true friend. The ladies loved him, his boss could always count on him, and his friends trusted him.

Although he was a quiet man, he was famous among family and friends for his witty one line jokes. To be with John was to be in the presence of greatness, not because he lit up the room, but because he humbly and graciously served the needs of everyone IN that room.

John loved all things New York, especially the Bronx, the Yankees, and the Giants. But his favorite place on earth was Disneyworld, where the wonder of his childlike spirit could take flight. If he loved you, he wanted to bring you to Mickey’s house.

His family is so grateful to Interim Health Service and Lower Cape Fear hospice for their kindness and devotion to John. Because of their incredible care and support. John’s last days were graced with dignity, reverence, and tenderness.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Julia; sons, John D. Sullivan of Danbury, CT., James P. Sullivan (Susan) of Charlestown, SC., and Michael B. Sullivan (Jessica) of Apex, NC.; grandchildren, Justin, Catrina, Emma, Addison, Kinsale, and one on the way; and a brother, Eugene Sullivan of Richfield Park, NJ.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church in Shallotte, NC. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:30am.
