Obituary
Jojuan Lee Somersett, 75, of Green Bay Rd., Shallotte, NC, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Darry Gray Somersett: son, Darry Collin Somersett and wife Christy; daughter, Tara Somersett Frazier and husband Moses; grandchildren, Jeremiah Frazier and wife Mial, Eli Somersett, Abigail Frazier; great grandchildren, Ivy Harper Hankins and Emmy Saige Frazier; and sisters, Anita Lowery and Sharon Watts.
Jojuan was born in Wilmington, NC to Daniel Rockwell and Bessie Moore Lee on October 22, 1948. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Donald Dean and Dale Lee.
Jojuan was the former owner of Bridal Affair in downtown Shallotte, where she sold wedding attire and décor and helped create many dream weddings. She was a gifted piano player and vocalist, and she shared those gifts as pianist at Ocean View Baptist Church for over 20 years. She also sang and played the piano as a member of The Believers, with friends Elaine and Sandy Pigott. The Believers performed at numerous churches through the years and touched many lives.
During her recent battle with recurrent cancer, Jojuan’s family sat by her hospital bed and recalled a life well lived. Jojuan loved big and lived holy. Everything she did, she did in love. She turned ordinary into fabulous – whether cooking, cleaning, dressing or decorating – with her special touch. If you knew her, she loved you. She never met a stranger, and she accepted and loved all people as children of God. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who provided a voice of reason, calm in every storm and made dark days brighter. She was a child of God.
A celebration of life will be held for Jojuan on Friday, July 12 at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, NC at 11 AM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10 AM. A graveside service will be held at the Mintz Cemetery immediately following the celebration of life. Donations can be made in Jojuan’s honor to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or a charity of your choice.
