Joseph John Magri

Joseph John Magri

Joseph John Magri, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 11, 2026, in Calabash, North Carolina. Born on January 20, 1937, in Little Italy, Cleveland Ohio, to Mary and Ben Magri. He lived a life devoted to family, faith, and work in corporate law.

He was proud to be an alumni of Cathedral Latin High School, John Carroll University, and  Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland. His legal career spanned more than six decades working loyally at Society National Bank and its many name changes before establishing a successful private practice.

Joseph married Marian Camma on December 29, 1962 and together they had 5 children. Elizabeth Ann Hertzfeld (Craig), Mary Christine Vessele (Eric), Bennet Magri (deceased), Amelia Marie Barson (William), , and Joseph John Magri Jr. He has 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who he enjoyed many bowls of ice cream with.

He relocated to North Carolina after retirement and lived in Sunset Beach so he could continue his joy of golf year round. Joseph spent countless hours perfecting his swing, breaking down, studying and rebuilding the move.  He remained there until Marian passed away in 2006 after 43 years of marriage.

Joseph was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. In his early years, he even considered entering the priesthood—a testament to the strength of his relationship with the Lord. He remained an active member of the church throughout his life and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. It was through this shared faith that he met Jeanne Graziano.  Together they successfully merged two large families and married at Saint Brendan’s Church in 2010 at the age 73. They made their home in Calabash, NC the past 15 years.

Beyond his professional accomplishments and deep faith, Joseph will be remembered for the warmth he brought into every room. He was a generous and kind-hearted man who always put the needs of others before his own. A devoted father and grandfather, he took great joy in playing checkers and making pancakes for his grandchildren during their visits—early mornings filled with laughter and love that will be treasured forever.

May Joseph’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were touched by his wisdom, compassion, and unwavering love. A mass of christian burial will be held on February 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Saint Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 5101 Ocean Hwy W. Shallotte, NC 28470. Interment will be Feb 3 at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews NC at 1:00. A small reception will be held following the funeral at the church to spend time with family and friends.
