Joseph LeRoy Benton was born April 5, 1941, in Ash, NC. He went to his Heavenly home on June 14, 2024. 

He was the son of the late Clyde Wilson Benton and Ida Gertrude Wilson Benton.  

LeRoy was a 1960 graduate of Shallotte High School. In his younger years, he worked with his father and brothers with Clyde Benton & Sons Builders and JSJ Carpets. Later, he joined the Sea Trail Golf Resort staff as a maintenance supervisor, where he remained until his retirement in 2009. 

He was also a former member of the Shallotte Jaycees, Shallotte Rescue Squad and the North Carolina National Guard. 

He was an active member of Longwood Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 33 years, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, helped with Vacation Bible School, and supported many programs of the church.  

LeRoy is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Doris Turner Benton; a son Joey Benton and his wife, Rhonda; and a granddaughter, Abigail Benton. He is also survived by two brothers, Howard Benton and wife Lois; Wayne Benton and wife Marsha along with several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.  

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 19 at 3 pm at Longwood Baptist Church in Ash, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation time with family and friends will be held at Brunswick Funeral Services in Shallotte on Tuesday, June 18, 5-7 pm.
