Joseph Serensits, Jr.
Obituary
On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Joseph (Jody) Serensits, our beloved husband and father, passed away. He was born in Kennebec, South Dakota. Jody was predeceased by his parents, Lois and Joseph Sr, and his sister Connie. Jody leaves his wife of 49 years, Martha (Marti), their daughter, Jessica, plus a host of relatives and friends.
Jody’s passion for sound engineering began at WWDC Radio in Washington, where he lent his expertise to legendary DC personalities like The Joy Boys and Johnny Holliday. In 1974, he embarked on a distinguished career with ABC News Radio and then, ABC News Television, earning acclaim as an accomplished sound engineer. Among his awards were with two Emmys, a Peabody, and a Dupont. Above all, he prized the friendships he made along the way.
A globetrotter by profession, Jody's work with ABC News took him to the far corners of the world. As a proud member of the White House Press Pool, and White House News Photographers Association, he not only witnessed, but captured history through the “lens of his craft”.
Jody's magnetic personality, infectious laughs, and deep love for music, especially jazz, marked him as a true connoisseur. He relished good food, good company, and engaged in friendly and spirited political debates. He enjoyed the warmth of good scotch especially after a round of golf or Sunday afternoon football. (Jody was a longtime avid Commanders fan)
Left to cherish his memory are his adoring wife, Marti, his beloved daughter, Jessica, and his buddy Sam, his French Bulldog. Jody's absence is keenly felt by a host of relatives and friends who were touched by his genuine warmth and kindness.
A celebration of Jody's rich and vibrant life will be held in the spring.
