Kathleen Gray Atkins Thompson, age 75, of Oak Island, NC died July 17, 2021.
Born June 19, 1946 in Winston Salem, NC, Kathleen was the daughter of Herman and Cammie Atkins.
Kathleen was in the first graduating class of Appalachian State University in 1968, where she then received her Master’s degree in 1972.
She was a NC teacher for over 30 years, with the majority of those years as an English teacher at South Brunswick High school.
Also an active member of the community, Kathleen served as the treasurer of the Retired School Teachers of Brunswick County, member of the Oak Island Beautification club and was active in her church community, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Charles; her son, Charles ‘Chuck’ Jr. and spouse Laura Ann; daughter, Cammie Morris, her spouse Charles, and three grandchildren, Caroline, Charlie and Caswell. Kathleen also has four surviving siblings, Sylvia Gray, Sandy Lamm, Philip Atkins, and Bonnie Marshall.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southport on Wednesday, July 21st at 11am.
