Kathleen Keever Taylor

Kathleen Keever Taylor

We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Kathleen (Kt) Keever Taylor, 75, of Sunset Beach, NC, on Nov. 26, 2022.

Kathy was born in Derby, CT on May 26, 1947, placed into foster care and soon thereafter adopted by Charles and Hazel Keever of Danbury, CT. That home and neighborhood and the schools she attended were the beginning of her life story filled with love, loss, and life-long friendships.

In early 1966, Kathy married her childhood sweetheart, Dennis Gilbert Taylor, who was killed in action in Vietnam in September, 1966, when she was 8 months pregnant with their first and only child, Dennis Richard Taylor. Her parents and grandmother, Rose, helped her take care of young Dennis while she worked, first as an office manager for a dermatologist, and later in the pathology and risk management departments at Danbury Hospital.

In 1989, Kathy reconnected with her high school friend, Jerry Carota at his 25th reunion, and in 1990, she moved with him to San Diego, CA where he owned his own business. In San Diego, she worked as an administrative assistant at SD Children's Hospital until she retired.

In 1997, Kathy searched for, found, and met her six biological siblings. In the ensuing years, she delighted in spending time with them at her home or theirs, introducing them to her friends, and sharing the events of their lives with those same friends.

In 2013, Kathy and Jerry moved back to the east coast to Sea Trail Plantation in Sunset Beach, NC, where they were welcomed by many childhood friends who had also retired there.

Kathy lit up a room with her sparkling smile and twinkling eyes. To spend time with her was to be in the presence of attentive care and concern. Her love was also expansive. On her daily walks with her beloved dog, Gracie, she stopped to meet and greet everyone along the way, often extending an impromptu invite to a party or dinner she and Jerry were planning. There was ALWAYS room for one more in her home and heart. AND, there was always time for one more activity or volunteer opportunity. She loved playing golf and Mahjong, and time in her beautifully kept yard was always a treat for her .She also donated her time to the Brunswick County Coalition for the homeless and to the local Elks.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Jerry; her brother, Richard (Joanne) Keever of Brookfield, CT; her nephew, Chris (Laura) Keever and their children, Charlie, Will, and Ellie of West Hartford, CT; her biological siblings, Jerry, Gene, and Bill Doyon, Diane Piccolo, Tony Iannone, Kathleen Iannone and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Hazel Keever, her first husband, Dennis G. Taylor, and her son, Dennis R. Taylor and sister-in-law, Pamela Keever.

Interment will be at 11:00 AM, January 12, 2023, in St. Brendan Columbarium followed by a gathering at Pink Palace in Sea Trail at 12:00 Noon. A graveside memorial service will also take place in CT in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, Kathy would be pleased to see donations made in her memory to  Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society, St Jude's and Paralized Veterans of America.
