Kathryn Watson Goodrich of Sunset Beach N.C passed away on August 2nd, 2023. She is survived by her son Scott Goodrich and his wife Jennifer, grandchildren Courtney Goodrich-Daal and Michael Goodrich, her daughter Amy Goodrich and her sisters Ruth Vadnais and Linda Culverwell.

Kate, or Katie to her family, was raised in Monson, Massachusetts along with her 10 brothers and sisters.

Kate received her B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, where she met her husband of 54 years, John Hinsdale Goodrich Jr. Together they raised Scott and Amy in Marlborough, Connecticut. John previously passed away on January 1st, 2021.

Kate was an Elementary school teacher and Math Specialist. She retired from the Colchester (CT) School district in 2002 after 31 years of service to the community. She received her Masters in Education from the University of Connecticut and was selected Teacher of the Year in 1997.

Kate loved to play tennis and golf and take long walks on the beach or through their neighborhood in their adopted hometown of Sunset Beach. She was an active member and leader of the Garden Club and captained a Relay for Life team for 10 years, raising over $100,000 for cancer research. In their nearly 20 years in Sunset Beach, John and Kate made many terrific friends with whom they dined, drank wine and traveled.

A local service will be held in Kate’s honor at a date to be determined.

Donations in her honor can be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center or to AHM Youth Services.
