Lemuel Thomas Mabry

Retired Sergeant First Class Lemuel Thomas Mabry, a proud Army Veteran passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Tom was born in Halifax County, NC on December 30, 1941, to Eugene Curtis Mabry and Sally Elizabeth Fowler Mabry. He was the son of a share crop farmer and was raised in the areas of Potecasi and Woodland, NC.

Tom pursued a career in the United States Army where he served as a Chemical Operations Specialist, was a member of the 82nd Airbourne Division and served in the Vietnam War.  During his career he received numerous awards and recognitions which included the National Defense Service Medal, two Bronze Star Medals, a Vietnam Service Medal, and a Purple Heart.

After his retirement and marriage to Dianne McKeithan on June 1, 1986, Tom moved to Brunswick County.  Tom enjoyed post-military careers as a salesman for Brunswick Building Supplies, serving as an independent insurance agent and working for Brunswick County Schools as a custodian at Waccamaw School. Tom enjoyed fishing, involvement in community and church activities and spending time with his family.

He was an active member of New Life Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed singing in the choir.

In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased in death by his brothers Pat, David, John, and Jerry Mabry.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne; his sons, Curtis, David, and Jeffrey Mabry; a brother Lloyd Mabry and wife Debbie; a sister Judy Ricks and husband Billy; a granddaughter Jennifer Brewer and husband Brian, and a grandson William Mabry and wife Jamie; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Rifton Evans, a sister-in-law Barbara Long and his buddy, Doug McKeithan.  He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, close relatives, and friends.

A full military honors funeral will be conducted at New Life Baptist Church in Ash, NC at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023.  A burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church,

The family extends special thanks to the caregivers of Home Instead Home Health Care, Liberty HomeCare and Hospice Services, and Autumn Care of Shallotte.
