Born in Brunswick County, June 14, 1931. The Man, the myth, a Brunswick County legend. Lloyd started oystering the Shallotte River when he was 12 years old.  He started an oyster house in 1962 on Shallotte Point Loop which later became Lloyd’s Oyster House on Village Point Road.  He purchased his first shrimp boat in 1964 and expanded his fleet to eight boats over the years.

Over the years, he owned and operated more than 20 restaurants, spanning from the Carolinas to Florida. He opened his first establishment, Larry's Calabash Seafood Barn, in 1977. He also owned and managed two of the largest restaurants in Port Canaveral, Lloyd's Canaveral Feast and Milliken’s Reef, while running docks dedicated to processing seafood, including scallops and shrimp. Additionally, he once owned a trucking company, Lloyd’s Oyster Company, which transported seafood up and down the coast. In 1978, he built and operated the only water slide on Ocean Isle Beach and owned several nightclubs in Myrtle Beach, including Xanadu.

He introduced one of the first gambling boats to Port Canaveral, FL, and the first gambling boat in the state of South Carolina to Little River, continuing as a partner with the Big M Casino Boat.

Lloyd had various business interests, he was always first to lend a helping hand to the community or just a friend. He enjoyed trips to Florida and the Abacos in the Bahamas; however, he was happiest when riding around on his forklift, unloading oysters, or sitting at his desk advising family and friends at the oyster house. A person who never met a stranger, he was a beloved father, grandfather, neighbor, friend, and partner.

Lloyd’s celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 3:00PM in the Brunswick Funeral Service Shallotte Chapel with Pastor Jason Benton officiating.  Following the funeral service entombment will be in Gurganus Cemetery.

Flowers may be sent or donations in Lloyd’s honor, can be made to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC, 28422.
