Lieutenant Colonel Walter Carol Wright, Jr., USA, Ret., 77, of Shallotte passed away July 4, 2018. He was born in Waycross, GA on October 2, 1940, a son of Walter Carol Wright, Sr. and Effie Lee McDaniel Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Michael.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from The Citadel (Company “N”) in Charleston, SC and a Master’s in Business Administration from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. He was a graduate of numerous military colleges and programs and served as the Chief of his Section at the Command & General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, KS.

Lt. Col. Wright proudly served his country for twenty-one years in the US Army. He was honored to have earned the right to be called a Ranger and wore the Ranger tab with pride. During his distinguished service, he earned multiple awards and decorations including Bronze Star with “V” Device for Valor and Heroism, Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters for Meritorious Service; Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in serial flight, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, Parachutist Badge and Airborne. He served in Korea, Viet Nam, Hawaii, Germany, Denmark, and numerous stateside postings. After retiring from military service, he worked for Marriott Corporation as a general manager in the business division, retiring in 1997.

Walter was a generous, warm and wonderful man. He was a true community servant with a genuine compassion for his country, family and many cherished friends.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Patricia Council Wright, son, Jeremy Wright of Noble, IL; daughters, Tricia Wright of Waipahu, HI, Natasha Wright and Sharon Wright, both of Shallotte; brother, Richard Wright (Susie) of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Hunter Gunnell, Brian Wright, Isabella Wright; special niece, Jaime Carroll of Charleston, SC; and many adored nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00PM on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at his residence.
