Obituary
Lydia Nieves passed away peacefully at the Autumn Care Nursing facility in Shallotte, NC on October 8, 2017. She was 92.
The youngest of 10 children, she was born on December 24, 1924 in Jayuya, Puerto Rico to the late Damian Adrover Planas and Juana Maria Serrano Torres. She was the widow of the late George Nieves. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters: Antonia, Rosita, Margot, and Catalina; brothers: Damian, Juan, Jaime, Francisco, and Antonio; and daughter Maritza Beasley.
She is survived by her son James and his wife Suzanne of Irving, TX; daughter Nancy Nieves Mittelstadt of Calabash, NC; son-in-law Robert Beasley of Goshen, NY; 8 loving grandchildren: Rebecca, James, Steven, Brian, Courtney, Gregory, Lindsay, and Melissa; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A long time area resident of Harriman and Orange County, NY, she has resided in Shallotte, NC since 2009.
Arrangements are under the care of Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, NC. A Catholic Mass and burial service is being planned and will be held at a later date.
