Margaret Ann Benton
Obituary
Margaret Ann “Peggy” Benton passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, on Wednesday, November 4, 2020
Born in Newark, New Jersey, on January 30, 1946, as the child of Alfred M. Arnoys and Margaret A. Arnoys,
She was raised in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, and, after marrying James F. Benton, Jr. in 1966, lived in Dover, New Jersey. There, she and Jim raised their two children, Michele and Michael. She loved her friends and Dehart Avenue neighbors and enjoyed playing and coaching softball, playing volleyball, and bowling. Following her retirement from Shop-Rite after 28 years and Jim’s retirement from federal service, they moved to Ocean Isle Beach and built their retirement home in Brick Landing Plantation.
Peggy embraced retirement with the enthusiasm and joy that was the trademark of her personality. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and water aerobics with her many friends in the community and was a member of the Sea Notes Choral Society. Friends and family knew her as an avid reader and a talented Jeopardy player.
Most of all, Peggy loved her family and instilled in her daughter and son a sense of values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. She will be loved and remembered by her husband of over 53 years, Jim; daughter Michele and son-in-law Kelly Cook of Nashville, NC and their fur babies Chief and Master; son Michael of Cedar Grove NJ, and adored grandboys, Dylan and Ayden and finance Allison Devine, girls Allissa and Amanda and grand fur babies, Gizmo.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, on Saturday, November 7, 2020; visitation will be 2 – 4 pm, followed by a Private Family Memorial Service.
