Marlyn Margaret Olio

Marlyn Margaret (McAuliffe) Olio, 78, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in Richmond, Virginia. Born December 14, 1942 in Bellows Falls, Vermont, she was the daughter of Justin and Lucille (Reynolds) McAuliffe; and sister to Daniel McAuliffe and Kathleen Fay. She was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Trinity College of Vermont (Class of 1964).

Marlyn married her high school sweetheart John Olio on June 13, 1964, the day following her college graduation.  From there, she and John began an incredible adventure that brought them coast to coast and overseas.  They enjoyed an abundant life in their 62 years together - building an amazing legacy of love with the family they created.  Over the years, Marlyn volunteered much of her time with church ministries, local schools and charitable organizations in Virginia and in their retirement years in North Carolina.  And for the past 23 years, “Nana” was the always present cheerleader, confidante and comforter to her grandchildren whom she adored.  Marlyn was the rare individual, who always put others first.  She was a true “multiplier”, bringing smiles to many and bettering the lives of all she touched.

John survives, along with daughter Michele, son Chris and six grandchildren.  Michele resides in Richmond, Virginia with her husband Greg and their four daughters - Molly, Ellie, Meg and Luci.  Chris, too, resides in Richmond with his wife Brenda and their two sons - Connor and Brandon.  Visitation and a celebration of life prayer service will be held Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 3:30 pm at Brunswick Funeral Home in Shallotte, NC.  Funeral mass and inurnment will be held the following morning, Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Shallotte.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or St. Brendan’s Catholic Church.  Online condolences may be made to the family at brunswickfuneralservice.com
