Martha Eden “Dee” Lowe Bolton, age 97, of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018. The family is forever grateful for those friends and neighbors who meant so much to her and helped care for, visit, and look out for her during her later years in Ocean Isle Beach and Shallotte, NC. A special thank you to June Brown, JoAnn Paterson, Carleen Long, Joe and Nancy Hamel, Patty Godbey, and the staff and nurses of Autumn Care of Shallotte, NC.

Martha was proceeded in death by her husband of sixty-four years Robert S. Bolton; parents Thomas L. Lowe and Kate Ida Hutchison; sisters Marline Thomas, Ida Hall and Doris Kiger; brothers Lawrence Lowe, Robert Lowe, and John Lowe. She was the last of her generation on both sides of her family.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Ingrid W. Bolton of Gainesville, GA, Mark T. and Linda Bolton of Fort Collins, Co, and James K. Bolton of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Grand children, Birgit J. Bolton, Patrick W. Bolton, Pia K. Benear, Sarah W. Bolton, Bret Bolton, Robin Bolton, Lindsey J. Wilkes, Dallas Bolton, many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Martha was born in Thomasville, NC on March 19, 1920. She grew up in High Point, NC and was a member of the High Point High School graduating class of 1937, During the Second World War she worked at Amon Hosiery Mill in High Point while her husband served with the US Army in North Africa and Italy. She retired after a career in the School Systems of Nash and Mecklenburg Counties of North Carolina and the City School System of Wheaton, Il, and Charlotte, NC. She retired to Ocean Isle Beach, NC in 1982.

She was an avid and cutthroat canasta player and much enjoyed that pastime until recently. She had an innate knack for carpentry and handcrafting projects. She was the family living encyclopedia and could tell you the names, birthdates, and wedding dates of all the in-laws, cousins, aunts, and uncles in the family. The birthday cards she sent to many always arrived exactly on the correct date. Martha enjoyed traveling and with her husband visited forty-nine of the 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico.

She was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Ocean View Baptist Church in Ocean Isle Beach. Until recently she was involved in many other church related activities as well. Her day was not complete until she had watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune game shows on TV.

A graveside service will be held at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, NC at a later date.
