Mary Ellen Lindemann
Obituary
Mary Ellen Lindemann, 71, of Sunset Beach, NC (formerly of Coventry, RI) passed away on September 24, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Frederick H. Lindemann; they recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary.
Mary Ellen, daughter of the late William R. and Mary E. (Reed) Shea, was born in Providence, RI and grew up in Warwick. Besides her husband, she leaves her daughter Sheila Lindemann of East Greenwich, RI, and her son Daniel (Jacklyn) Lindemann of Brunswick, NY; brother William E. Shea of Gales Ferry, CT; sister Kathy Letourneau of Warwick; brother Stephen J. (Maria) Shea of South Berwick, ME; and many nieces and nephews. She was especially proud of her grandchildren Emma and Nicholas Lindemann.
Affectionately known to some as Mel or Lindy, Mary Ellen made friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed visiting vineyards, playing Bunco with the girls, and traveling – especially to St. Maarten. A graduate of Johnson & Wales University, Mary Ellen worked in banking and real estate before becoming a travel consultant for DATS Travel and a station supervisor for Cape Air. She was passionate about Little League Baseball (LLB), as she began running a concession stand with her husband and eventually served as President of Central Coventry Little League. She was a stickler for the rules and genuinely wanted LLB to be about the kids having fun. This did not go unnoticed, as Mary Ellen was elected to the role of District 3 Administrator for the State of RI, where she served until retiring after 26 years of service to LLB. She also received an Ambassador Award from the Rhode Island Sports Commission.
At Mary Ellen’s request, there will be no formal services at this time. Celebrations of life will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to American Kidney Fund or Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. As Mary Ellen was a grateful recipient of a kidney transplant, we ask on her behalf that you consider being a living organ donor.
