Obituary
Mary Lou Cheers, 89, of Shallotte died May 3, 2019. She was born in Brunswick County on November 24, 1929, a daughter of the late John Edward “Shub” Hewett and Eliza Danford Hewett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rotha Cheers; a daughter, Karen Branch; sisters, Nelda Smith and Mina Smith; brother, Craven Hewett; and son-in-law, Jay Houston.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Houston, of Shallotte; brother, Boyce Hewett (Florence) of Supply; son-in-law, Larry Branch, of Shallotte; grandchildren, Shannon Jordan (Dennis), Jessica Winfree (Jeffrey) Heather Murray (Jay) and Wayne Branch (DeAnna); great grandchildren, Madeline Murray, Savannah Branch, and Blake Jordan; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 6, 2019 at 3:00 PM in Shell Point Baptist Church officiated by The Rev. Larry Milliken, The Rev. Tommy Inman, and The Rev. Foyd Bennett. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shallotte.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Active casket bears will be Lindberg Smith, Dean Smith, Craven Allen Hewett, Mike Hewett, Timmy Hewett, and Clay Smith. Honorary casket bearers will be Johnny Smith, Millie Ruppe, and Gary Smith.
