Mary "Sue" Johnson Widener

Mary “Sue” Johnson Widener, 76, of Supply North Carolina, passed away on May 15, 2026, at Bolivia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Bolivia, North Carolina after a time of failing health and a lengthy battle with dementia.

She was born to the late James and Mildred Johnson on December 24, 1949, in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Prior to Sue’s dementia diagnosis, she was an avid reader, green-thumb enthusiast, and a proud German Shepherd dog mom. She was a regular at the Rourk Library in Shallotte for many years. She always had a stack of books by her side, often delving into multiple stories at the same time. Her home was always full of luscious green plants that she tended to with pride. Over the years, Sue adopted two German Shepherds, Daisy Mae and Roxy. Their canine companionship and love were an immediate remedy to Sue’s previous fear of large dogs.

Sue is survived by two daughters: Shannon Lunsford of Salisbury, North Carolina and Crystal Widener of Supply, North Carolina. She was also blessed with three grandchildren: Josey Henderson, Skylar Carlyle, and Gracie Henderson as well as two great-grandsons: Logan Howell and Ky’aire Carlyle. Sue is also survived by a sister, Hope Campbell Hagan, of Oak Island, North Carolina.

Her family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the special staff members in the Tranquility Bay Memory Care Unit at Bolivia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the many years of consistent and loving care provided to “Ms. Sue”.

Visitation will be from 3pm-4pm on May 20, 2026 at Ocean View Pentecostal Church in Supply, North Carolina with a service to immediately follow from 4pm-5pm.  Burial will follow in Ocean View’s cemetery. Condolences and floral tributes can be sent to Brunswick Funeral Service in Shallotte, North Carolina or online at www.brunswickfuneralservice.com.
