MC Moody

May 30, 1940 – October 4, 2022

MC Moody, husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor, entrepreneur, died on October 4, 2022, with his children by his side following a long fight against the effects of neurological disease.

MC is survived by his two greatest joys, his son, Brian of Sunset Beach, NC, and his daughter, Shannon of Richmond, VA. He was predeceased in 2007 by the love of his life, Kathryn, his wife of 43 years. They are now reunited and celebrating lives well lived.

Born in Wayne County, NC, to the late Jodie and Retha Moody, MC worked on the family farm through adolescence and joined the U.S. Army in 1961. He was extremely proud to be a Veteran and adored telling tales from the years he served in Germany as the personal driver to the base General.

Soon after returning stateside, he met and fell in love with the former Kathryn Dail and married just four months later. Theirs was a love story for the ages and one that he would tell anyone who would listen in the years following her passing.

A consummate entrepreneur and salesman, MC made his living by working extremely hard. With only a GED, he often worked more than one job to make a future for his family. He opened a fish market upon returning to Wayne County following his service in the Army. He sold vacuums and books door-to-door in Raleigh, NC, early in their marriage, and mowed commercial lawns, until finally landing his all-time favorite job in ramp service for Eastern Airlines at the Raleigh-Durham Airport. That job began a 20+-year career that led to him meeting some of his best friends and where he shared great adventures leading to the most hilarious stories.

After the airline shut down, MC built and opened a self-storage business and began investing in real estate. Selling that business allowed he and Kathryn to officially retire to Sunset Beach, NC, nearly 25 years ago. Sunset Beach and the neighbors in Wyndfall became home. Dubbed the unofficial “mayor” of the neighborhood, he walked at least two miles every day, rain or shine, looping around the community. Years after Kathryn’s passing, he met Carol Moore of Lake Waccamaw, a truly loved companion during the last decade of his life. Walking and eating out with Carol became his two favorite pastimes.

MC never met a stranger, making friends and impressions on people everywhere he went. He never missed an opportunity to be generous. He loved fiercely, he worked relentlessly, and he fought valiantly through his final breath. He will be missed by every person he encountered. Even many of the caregivers assisting MC and the family over the last years referred to him as their “favorite”.

MC is survived by his sister, Margaret May of Goldsboro, NC, half-brother Paul (Cindy) of Dudley, NC, and predeceased by brothers Morris, Benny, and Jodie, Jr. He is also loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends made along the way. He loved, and is loved, beyond measure.

Well done my good and faithful servant! Come into your holy rest. - Matthew 25:23,34.

At MC’s written insistence, the family will not be holding a funeral service. Condolences can be sent to Shannon Moody at 3411 Kenmore Road, Richmond, VA 23225. As MC delighted in food and so many in our communities are going without in these times, any gifts in his honor can be made to The Lord’s Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1461 Shallotte, NC 28459 or your local food pantry.
