Obituary
Michael "Mike" William Leonard, Boston born on June 23, 1954 departed this life on August 5, 2024. The second of three boys to parents Charles and Margaret MacDonald Leonard, Michael soon distinguished himself as precocious, displaying a penchant for reading and later writing. He was a nationally recognized military miniature artist with a multitude of awards.
After graduating from the University of Massachusetts/Boston Mike embarked on a dual career serving 5 years in the US Navy, 25 years in the US Navy Reserves where he achieved the rank of Captain, and also as an IT Systems Analyst working for government contractors and later Computer Science Corp. It was during this time Mike met his life companion Susan "Susie" Boas and the two married in 1994. Together they lived in Northern Virginia until deciding to retire to Sunset Beach in 2007. Once retired Mike enjoyed spending time expanding his collection of military memorabilia.
Mike is survived by his wife Susie, his older brother Larry Leonard (Amy) of Madison, NH and daughter Ashley Leonard Dohonoe of Bridgewater, MA and his younger brother Jim Leonard (Janet) of Braintree, MA and daughters Samantha Leonard of East Boston, MA and Haley Leonard of Medford, MA. Mike was predeceased by his nephew Kevin Leonard.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel 5229 Ocean Hwy W Shallotte, NC 28470.
