Michelle Ann Sbardella
Obituary
It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of our amazing wife, mother, daughter and friend, Michelle Sbardella. She passed suddenly on July 13th, 2026, in Oak Island, NC. She is preceded in death by her stepfathers George Osman, and Jack Casey, her mother and father-in-law Rico and Jean Sbardella, her aunt Beverly Marshall and uncle Clyde Marshall. She leaves behind her husband, Paul Sbardella, her twin daughters, Stephanie and Nicole, her mother Barbara Casey, her beloved dog Beau, and many cherished cousins and friends.
Michelle was born in Arlington, Massachusetts on August 13th, 1959, to Barbara Casey. She was raised by her mother between Arlington and Cambridge and enjoyed growing up alongside her beloved cousins and friends who became family. She especially loved spending time with her beloved grandparents in Cambridge. Her stories of childhood through her twenties were endless and filled with so much fun and love. She enjoyed trips with her family to Cape Cod and held those memories close. She met Paul Sbardella in 1985, marrying him on the hottest day in Boston on August 13, 1988. They lived in Puerto Rico for 5 years where they truly lived their best lives, made so many friends, and enjoyed hopping between the varies islands. They especially loved spending time in St. John, where they vacationed often, truly was one of Michelle’s favorite places of all time. They also enjoyed spending time with friends, hosting friends over the holidays, and feeding them delicious meals, and many, many, many pies! Michelle definitely knew her way around the kitchen and her meals would be missed.
After finding out they were pregnant with twins, they moved to Northern Virginia, for “6 months” which turned into nearly 30 years. In Northern Virginia, Michelle had many friends and neighbors that she loved dearly. After volunteering and subbing at her daughter’s school, Silverbrook Elementary, she started working there as a kindergarten assistant and loved all her students and coworkers who became friends. Many students and families have stayed in touch over the years, and she always loved hearing about their lives and successes.
On November 14th, 1991, Michelle gave birth to her beloved twin daughters, Stephanie and Nicole. Michelle was truly meant to be a mother, whether she believed it or not. She put her daughters first and worked hard to make sure they had an amazing childhood. They did not always make it easy, in fact they made it very difficult at times, but she loved her daughters with every ounce of her being. She was especially proud of their travels and loved hearing all about their adventures. Michelle never missed a swim meet, softball game, or school event, she was always her daughter’s biggest cheerleader and supporter.
Michelle spent her last years enjoying retirement in Oak Island, NC. She had many friends there and enjoyed spending time with them all, whether it was playing in the skee ball league, enjoying craft nights, playing cards, or having a glass of wine.
We cannot leave our Michelle’s love for her beloved dogs. She always joked that she was a dog in another life. She provided the best life for her dogs throughout her life, especially her beloved Dobermans, Asia, Irish and Beau, and her lab, Riley. Her dogs loved her and she loved them with her whole heart.
We would especially like to thank my mom’s great friend Roe Kormanec for rushing down to Oak Island to support our family during this time, the time and effort will forever be appreciated. As well as a sincere thank you to everyone else for their love and support during this time.
Michelle will be greatly missed by her family and loved ones. She was very adamant that she did not want a full funeral service, however, we will be hosting family and friends for a Celebration of Life on July 25th. Please come celebrate her life with us at the Oak Island Elks Lodge on July 25th starting at 1:00 pm. Michelle never believed in wearing black to mourn someone’s life, instead she always would say we should wear whatever the person would enjoy, so please dress colorfully to celebrate her life as she would want us to.
