Obituary
NANCY TOWNSEND MACDONALD
Nancy MacDonald, nee Townsend, was born April 18, 1947, and grew up in Montclair, NJ. She passed away on June 4, 2021 after a sudden illness. She was predeceased by her first husband, Tom Wilson, in 1995. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Douglas MacDonald, three children, Ian Wilson (Alta) Nicholas Wilson (Kristin), Lyndsay Anderson (Steven), two stepdaughters, Tracy MacDonald and Peggy Kenrick (Chris), and nine grandchildren.
Nancy was a graduate of Montclair High School, Elmira College, and NYU Paris where she earned her Master’s degree in French. Nancy and her first husband served in the Peace Corps in Tunisia and subsequently lived in France and Belgium before returning to the US where they lived in Montclair. Nancy taught French at Saint Cassian School. She was active at First Baptist Church, the Human Needs Food Pantry, and a supporter of Montclair High and Colgate University.
Nancy married Doug in 1999 and moved to North Carolina in 2004 to a home in Ocean Ridge Plantation, where she participated in many community activities. Nancy was an avid walker, swimmer, and loved the beach. She appreciated classical music, literature, and enjoyed travelling. She played bridge and golf and recently had two holes-in-one. Nancy also volunteered at Union Elementary School tutoring third grade students in reading. Nancy was gracious and kind--a beautiful lady who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
