Obituary
Ouida H. Hewett, 83, of Supply died Friday, August 12, 2016.
Born in Brunswick County on January 10, 1933, she was a daughter of the late O. Gaston and Vera Holden Hewett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Freeman Hewett, son, Kenny Hewett, and brothers, O. Kenneth Hewett and Roy (Bit) Hewett.
She was a 1951 graduate of Shallotte High school; a member of Shallotte First Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ for many years; Founder of the church Sunshine Choir; Executive Director of Cape Fear United Way; Founding Member of Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity; Brunswick County Celebrate Recovery; SBI Inter-Church Council; Brunswick County Historical Society; Brunswick County Status of Women; Associate Editor Brunswick Beacon; contributing writer for My Little Corner column in the News & Shopper and The State Port Pilot; founding member of the Hewetts’ of Brunswick County Cemetery Committee and a 4-H Leader for over 20 years. She was a member of the Brunswick County Chapter Eastern Star #341 and an Administrative Coordinator for Brunswick County VIC.
Surviving are her children, Reggie Hewett, Van Hewett (Sue) of Supply; Lynn H. Ellis, Shallotte, NC, Lisa Simmons (Charles) and Lori Hewett of Supply, NC; brother, Jeris Hewett (Linda) of Supply; and sister, Julia Gooden (Will) of Florida; grandchildren, Erica Smith (Randy), Sara Carico (Ian), Stacey Pye (Greg), Aaron Simmons (Stephanie), Beth Purcell, Gaston Hewett, Robin Bennett (Cameron) Elizabeth Hewett, Kyle O’Neil (Brittany), Megan Freeland, Sara Coats, and Becca Coats; great grandchildren, Lee Stephens (Crystal) Melody Maraquin, Miranda Smith, Maddi Smith, Grady Effrein, McKenzie Freeland, Ellisyn Carico, Makenna Carico, Grace, Nikkie, and Danni Burcell, Jordan, Jada, and Jaelah Coats; great-great grandchildren, Jarred, Jaren, Neveah Stephens, Colby and Cailey Maraquin.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 18, 2016, at 3:00 PM by the Rev. Dr. Bob Weathers in Shallotte First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the James Walker Hewett Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the funeral home. Casket bearers will be Ian Carico, Cameron Bennett, Aaron Simmons, Randy Smith, Marvin Long, Jr. and Dennis Hewett, Jr.
