Paul E. Sandor

Paul E. Sandor

Paul E. Sandor 80, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at home surrounded by family.

A native of Stamford, CT, Paul attended Stamford Catholic where he played basketball.  He spent his free time working for his family’s cabinetry business and boating on Long Island Sound.  At one point he and a friend held the record for rowing across the Sound and back from Stamford to North Point, Long Island. His boating adventures also led him to his future wife, Nora Cordon, who he met on Cove Island Beach.

After graduating high school, Paul attended Merrimack College, where his activities included serving as a prefect, Sports Editor for the Warrior, and a member, one-time president and star intramural quarterback of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. After graduating first in his class, he received a full scholarship from Penn State University where he completed a master's degree. Paul then acquired his CPA license and began working for the Federal Government, auditing nuclear submarines at Electric Boat. He eventually transferred to the Internal Revenue Service, where he served as Appeals Chief for the Hartford/Springfield Division.

After raising their family in Cheshire, CT, Paul and Nora retired to North Carolina where he used his impressive woodworking skills to build their beautiful home, the centerpiece of which was Nora’s dream kitchen, designed by Paul to her exact specifications.  It was a labor of love that he was able to enjoy as he happily ate everything she created in that kitchen.

Paul could be best described as a man of faith who loved his family, never said a bad word about anyone, was always willing to help others and lived every day to the highest standard of integrity, honesty and meticulous attention to detail in all he undertook.

An avid golfer, Paul won the title of Senior Men’s Club Champion at Carolina National, his home course, in 2010 and was Men’s Club Champion runner up in 2006.  He exercised his sharp intellect with regular reading, watching the news and learning about history, especially the Civil War.

When not golfing or woodworking, Paul loved landscaping, birds, watching Penn State football, UCONN basketball, and New York Yankees baseball, volunteering at Supply Elementary School, and closely following the lives of his three beloved grandchildren.

In addition to Nora, his wife of nearly 60 years, Paul is survived by his sons, Timothy (Lauren) Sandor of Cheshire, CT and Brendan (Karen) Sandor of Woodbury, CT, his grandchildren Sarah, Liam and Gavin Sandor, brothers Fred, Ray and Richard, and a sister Janet.  He was predeceased by his parents, John and Felicia Sandor.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Services.  A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport, NC, on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson's Foundation.
