Obituary
Paul Henry Helwig, age 74, of Calabash, NC, passed away on Saturday September 11, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on February 10, 1947 the son of the late, Harold Helwig and Erna Pusemann Helwig.
Paul grew up in Weehawken, NJ and was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam Conflict. He served on the Weehawken Police Department for many years and retired as a Lieutenant. He received a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from New Jersey City University and was an avid Corvette and Hot Rod aficionado. He was a longtime member, 49 years, of the B.P.O. Elks Club #1456 in Weehawken, NJ and longtime member of the American Legion Post 0503 of Calabash, NC.
Surviving are his wife Barbara Helwig; a son Peter Helwig and grandson, Paul Helwig; a stepson, Patrick Flood (Heather) two step-grandchildren Audrey and Murphy; a brother, Peter Helwig (Donna); a sister Dorothy Helwig; a sister-in law, Catherine Securda (Jack); several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday September 16, 2021 in Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte Chapel. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday September 15, 2021 at the funeral home.
