Obituary
Paul Michael Waksmunski of Southport, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 13th, 2023 at the age of 67.
Paul was born in Washington, D.C. on August 10th, 1955 to John Albert Waksmunski and Alice Wright Waksmunski. The second of six children, Paul was raised in the D.C. suburbs of Bethesda, Maryland.
After graduating from Walt Whitman High School in 1973, Paul went on to study civil engineering at the University of Maryland before transferring to Western Kentucky University. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky in 1978. Paul then began his career as an engineer for Washington Gas Company, where he worked for 32 years.
Paul married his beloved wife Jocelyne (Lynn) Tibbits in 1979 and moved to Manassas, Virginia, where they went on to have three children.
After retiring in 2011, Paul and Lynn relocated to Southport, North Carolina. Paul was well known in the neighborhood for his antique tractor and Jeep restoration projects and as an avid collector of World War II memorabilia. He was also a member of the local “Jimmies” softball team.
Paul, fondly known as “Pop Pop” by his grandchildren, was a doting and active grandfather in his later years.
Paul was predeceased by his father, John, and mother, Alice. He is survived by his wife, Lynn, children Blair (Rebecca), Courtney (Paul), and Sarah (Brett), six grandchildren, five siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23rd from 4 to 6 pm at Brunswick Funeral Service, located at 3479 Southport-Supply Rd SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 24th at 12 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 5269 Dosher Cutoff SE, Southport, NC 28461. A reception to follow will take place at St. James Members Club located at 3779 Members Club Blvd, Southport, NC 28461.
