Obituary
Peggy Mangum Owens, 85, of Shallotte, died November 27, 2020 at home. She was born June 10, 1935 in Wilson County, the daughter of Arthur (Doc) and Ruby Whitley Mangum. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Maynard Owens.
Peggy graduated from Saratoga High School, class of 53 and East Carolina University in 1957 with a BS in Education. She retired from teaching at Shallotte Middle School in 1992.
Surviving are her two brothers, Johnny and Grant Mangum and her three children: Glenn (Sharon) Owens, Audrey (Keith) Gore, and Kenneth (Carrie) Owens. Peggy has six grandchildren Jennifer Caison, Bryan Owens, Jason Gore, Ryan Gore,
Katherine Owens, and Cameron Owens. Peggy also has four great-grandchildren.
Peggy was an avid bowler and a regular senior games competitor. She also loved going to the Brunswick Senior Center. Peggy was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for 52 years.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 2 at Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Family will receive visitors at the home through Tuesday afternoon (Covid-19 precautions please). Burial will be at Brunswick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (Hospice) or Calvary Baptist Church.
