Obituary
Priscilla Pinkston Shoemaker, 83, of Shallotte, NC, unexpectedly passed away on June 1, 2025. She was
born in Salisbury, NC, on July 31, 1941, the youngest daughter of the late Everette and Elma Surratt
Pinkston. She was also preceded in death by her son, Wesley Shoemaker.
Priscilla decided at six years of age to be a teacher. She was a graduate of Boyden High School in
Salisbury, NC, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She had a deep love for children and
taught at the elementary school grade level for thirty years, concluding her career at Shallotte Middle
School and Supply Elementary School in Brunswick County. She made math fun for her students and was
proud of them all.
Priscilla enjoyed the competitiveness of card and board games. She received a Life Master Designation
from the American Contract Bridge League for outstanding achievement in competitive bridge. She was
an active participant in several bowling leagues, scoring a perfect 300 game on at least one occasion. In
addition, she enjoyed golfing and bicycling in her younger years.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, William (Bill) Shoemaker of Shallotte, NC; sister, Kay
Pinkston Coley of Concord, NC; nephew, Mark Shoaf (Kamm) of Piedmont, SC; sister-in-law, Adelaide
Shoemaker of Red Springs, NC; niece, Kay Carreira (Brian); and great niece, Gracie Carreira, of Pineville,
NC.
A Memorial Service will be held at noon on June 14, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church, Shallotte, NC, where
she was a longtime member and Sunday School Teacher. Pastor Joe Needham will conduct the service.
The family will receive friends immediately afterwards.

nurses, and caring medical staff in Brunswick and New Hanover Counties.
