Richard Allen Armistead, Jr.
Obituary
Richard Allen Armistead, Jr., 38, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Allen was born on June 8, 1987, in Fresno, California, to Richard Allen Armistead and Pamela Phillips Armistead of Oak Island, NC. From an early age, Allen had a strong spirit, a steady presence, and a deep love for his family—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
A true master of his craft, Allen was an exceptional capenter who took immense pride in his work. He believed in doing things the right way, never cutting corners, and leaving behind something he could be proud of. As the owner of his own business, he not only helped to build homes and projects, but also a reputation grounded in honesty, integrity, and unmatched skill. Those who worked with him knew they could trust both his hands and his word.
Outside of his work, Allen found joy in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and expert marksman, always happiest when surrounded by nature. But above all else, Allen cherished time spent with the people he loved. His family was his greatest pride and his deepest joy. He adored his wife and daughter, and his love for them was evident in everything he did. He lit up the room when he entered with his huge smile and big laugh. He was so full of life and laughter.
Allen is survived by his loving parents, Richard and Pamela; his sister, Sydney Rochelle, her husband Jason Blalock, and their daughter Piper of York, SC; his beloved wife, Pamela Armistead; her son Kyle; and their daughter Harper.
He is also survived by his extended family, including Curt and Brenda Ducommun of Shallotte; Pamela’s sister Nicole Purdy of Washingtonville, NY, Aunt Gail Lauster; cousin Ashley Shenberger, her husband Eric, and their son Ryan; all of the Shallotte, NC.
He is further survived by his uncles and aunts, Gary and Mimsie Armistead of North Myrtle Beach, and Casey and Rebecca Phillips of Richmond, VA; his cousins Katherine Bowman and her husband Will, and their children Jennings and June of Raleigh, NC; Ian Armistead of Raleigh, NC; and many other cherished family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his Grandparents William and Margaret Armistead of Pensacola Fla. and Grandmother (Nana) Carol Phillips of Chester, Va.
Allen graduated from Pinecrest High School and continued his training at Sandhills Community College, where he developed the skills that would shape his career. His work took him across North Carolina, Colorado, Texas, Puerto Rico, and Maine, allowing him to gain a wide range of experience and a deep appreciation for people and places. Through his travels and the values instilled in him by his family, Allen learned the importance of fairness, hard work, and treating others with respect—principles he carried with him every day.
Allen will be remembered for his strength, his kindness, his unwavering work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and dependability to those around him. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made and the love he gave will live on in all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Brunswick Funeral Service Shallotte Chapel, officiated by Reverend Raymond Wood. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
A reception will be held directly after the service at Eastside Fellowship Church located at 4755 Main St, Shallotte, NC
He built a life with his hands, but it was his heart that made it truly strong—and that love will never fade.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harper’s College Fund in loving support of her future.
