Obituary
Richard, "Dick Lee" Heron of Shallotte died May 24, 2024, at the SECU House of Lower Cape Fear Life Care. He was born in Baltimore, MD on December 6, 1945, to Raymond F. Heron and Carolyn Haschert Heron.
Dick followed his dad's footsteps into the Navy, the only interruption to his career in radio as an on-air personality known as "Dick Lee". He worked at stations in MD, SC, and NC including North Myrtle Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Shallotte, and Wilmington. He also did play by play for the WBHS football games through the 90's and early 2000's.
He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal aunt Lillian Jenkins and paternal uncle Charles Heron. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Heron Knauff (Christian) of CT and grandson Oisin Cullen Knauff; sister Jeanne Heron McDuffie (Nick); brother Mark Heron (Kathi); nieces Bethany and Taylor; nephews Jason and Justin; and dear friend Peggie.
A Memorial will be held at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, 5229 Ocean Hwy W Shallotte, NC 28470, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2024 with Rev. Henry Rehder officiating.
