Richard "Rick" Murray Cork
Obituary
Rick Cork, of Sunset Beach, NC, died on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Novant New Hanover Medical Center after receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer only days before. He was born in Birmingham, AL to parents Murray Emmett Cork and Doris Densmore Cork. He graduated from Minor High School and the University of Alabama. Ironically, it was in Tuscaloosa that he met the Auburn University grad that would become his wife. Rick and Nancy McCorquodale Cork were married on March 25, 1978, in Jackson, AL. They then drove, pulling a trailer behind Nancy’s Datsun B210, to Maple Shade, NJ where they would begin their married life.
Rick never met a stranger, making him a perfect fit for a career in sales. He began his career with Stockham Valves and Fittings in Birmingham, AL and completed it as East Coast Regional Sales Manager for Vycon Energy.
They welcomed the birth of their son, Jonathan, while living in NJ. In 1982, they moved to Charlotte, NC. It was there that their son Jordan was born. While living in Charlotte, they were members of Carmel Baptist Church. Rick found lifetime friends there as a part of the church softball team and the Nagillum (mulligan spelled backwards) Golf Group. In 2003, Rick and Nancy moved to Davidson, NC where they would live until retirement. It was in 2020 that they moved to Sunset Beach to begin their dream of enjoying golf and lazy days on the beach with family and friends.
Rick is survived by his wife Nancy, son Jonathan and his wife, Katie and their children, Cooper, Katelyn and Emerson, and son Jordan and Cindy White, brother, Alan and his wife, Debbie, sister-in law, Sarah and her husband John Jeffers. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A memorial service will be held at Seaside United Methodist Church, 1300 Seaside Rd, Sunset Beach, NC on July 7 at 11:00am.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to The First Tee of Coastal Carolinas, 445 Tarkin Ct. NW, Shallotte, NC 28470.
