Robert Donald McNally was born in Queens, New York to the late Joseph Francis McNally and Frances Fitzpatrick McNally.

At age 3, Robert’s family moved to Greenbelt, Maryland where he was raised and met lifelong friends. After 4 years in the US Navy, he was wed to Ann Murphy on January 20th, 1962.

Bob was a member of the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland for twenty years and served in various units including homicide, canine, vice and child abuse squads. While serving in the police department, he and Ann additionally started the Murmac Construction Company building over a hundred townhouses and single-family homes in Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties in Maryland.

After retirement from the police force in 1982, he was the Director of Security for Bowie and Laurel Racetracks in Maryland, and a project manager for two local Maryland home construction companies for a number of years.

First and foremost, he enjoyed any time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay, RVing throughout the country, and spent retirement enjoying winters in the Florida Keys.

Bob is survived by his loving spouse of 62 years, Ann McNally; his children Michael McNally(spouse Teresa) of Jacksonville, NC, Kelly Grennan(spouse Kevin) of Charlotte, NC, and Melissa Rowland(spouse Neill) of Sunset Beach, NC; his ten grandchildren(Zachary, Brittany, Matthew, Lyndsay, Steven, Andrew, Kendall, Jacob, Taylor and Brady) and two great grandchildren(Bethany and Juliet); his brother, Joseph McNally; his sisters Marybeth Paterson and Cathy Easter; and many loving family and friends.

Bob’s love of family, easy humor and friendly spirit will be missed by all. His family will keep his cherished memory in their hearts forever.

Robert D. McNally’s Funeral Mass will be held this Thursday, July 18th at 10:00am at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church at 5101 Ocean Hwy W, Shallotte, NC 28470. A Celebration of His Life will be held for family and friends immediately afterwards at The Lion’s Paw/Panther’s Run Clubhouse at 351 Ocean Ridge Pkwy SW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469.
