Obituary
Sandra (Sandy) Kershner, 75, of Calabash, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Bolivia. Sandy was born on July 28, 1943 in New Britain, Connecticut to Frederick and Alice Feldmann. She graduated from Delta State University in 1964 with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She was a founding sister of Kappa Delta sorority (Gamma Psi chapter) at Delta State in 1962 and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She was also a charismatic and energetic Kindergarten teacher for 37 years with the Prince George's County Board of Education in Maryland. On July 4, 1964, she married Gary Wayne Kershner in Clarksdale, Mississippi and they raised one son, Gary Wayne Kershner II, and one daughter, Leighanne Kershner Spink in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.
Sandy had a passion for painting, reading, bird watching, arts and crafts, and gardening. She was a dedicated member of the Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach. She enjoyed listening to country songs and Christian hymns, singing proudly in the Seaside UMC choir, taking multiple trips to Walt Disney World with her best friends and daughter, and spending quality time with family and close friends. She was a Northern High School Pom Mom in Owings, Maryland for many years and the NHS Poms fondly called her "Momma K". She also adored visiting with her furry grandchildren in Maryland - Beauty, Baxi, and Brandi - and spoiling them rotten. She thoroughly enjoyed decorating her home and church during the Christmas holidays and making everything sparkle around her. She was always known for her infectious smile, zest for life, courageous spirit, and unwavering faith.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Feldmann; her mother, Alice Feldmann; and her sister, Martha Feldmann. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gary Wayne Kershner of Calabash; her son, Gary Wayne Kershner II (Renee) of Warrenton, VA; her daughter, Leighanne Kershner Spink (Derek) of Sykesville, MD; her brother, Kurt Feldmann (Sharon) of Germantown, MD; and her grandsons, Gary Wayne Kershner III and Conner Spink.
