Shirley Margaret Broda, 95, died Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Shallotte, NC surrounded by her family.
Born in Newark, NJ on February 17, 1931, a daughter of the late Rueben and Marion Rappaport. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Albert F. Broda, who passed away in 2004 after 53 years of marriage, her siblings Dorothy Siksnius and Harry Rappaport. She was known for her humor and dedication to her family. The Broda family owned and operated the Union Motor Lodge and the Water Gap Country Club during which time Shirley enjoyed landscaping and decorating the facilities.
Shirley is survived by her two sons, Albert Broda and wife Georgia, Scott Broda and wife Donna, both residing in Carolina Shores, NC; two cherished grandchildren, Katherine Booth and husband Zack, residing in Delaware Water Gap, PA and Christopher Broda and fiancée Kaylie, residing in Nashville, TN; beloved sister, Carolyn Brettler, residing in Madison, NJ.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 10am in St. Brendan, the Navigator Catholic Church (5101 Ocean Hwy West, Shallotte, NC 28470). Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
