Terry Wayne Cook

Terry Wayne Cook, 71, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina, passed away on August 24, 2026.

Terry was born November 3, 1954, in Asheboro, North Carolina, to the late Dalton Cook and Josephine Davis Cook. He grew up in Asheboro and moved to Sunset Beach in 2003.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Midge; his children, Shep Leonard (Leslie) and Davis Ellington “Ellie” Rapp (Alex); grandchildren, Hayden Leonard (Torey), McKain Rapp, Wesley Rapp, and Anna Rapp; great grandchildren Layla & Jameson Leonard; and Midge’s children, Aaron and Amber and their children; and his former wife, Jamie Ellington. 

He is also survived by his siblings, Billy Cook (Alice) and Phyllis Graves (Randy) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Josephine Cook, and his brothers, Harold Cook and Jimmy Cook.

Terry earned a degree in Turf Grass Management and worked as a golf course superintendent at Pinewood Country Club and Uwharrie Golf Course. He also oversaw the construction and growth of Stoney Creek Golf Course in Whitsett, North Carolina as the superintendent for 12 years.  After moving to Sunset Beach Beach, Terry work with the Town of Ocean Isle Beach.

Terry was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed watching baseball and NASCAR and served as a Little League umpire. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, usually under an umbrella with a book, and loved his dogs, Katie, Ace and Chico and his cat Steve.

The family would like to thank Terry’s best friend and golfing buddy, Bill French for care and support over the years and Terry’s Hospice care team.

A family service will be held at Pine Hill UMC in Denton, North Carolina.
