Thomas Gerald Smed, 65, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away May 5, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Luscan and Elizabeth Coonan Luscan, and adopted by his sister, Elizabeth Ann, and her late husband Duane Smed, and later raised by Elizabeth Ann and her husband John F. Walsh, Sr.

Tom graduated from Phillipsburg H.S., Class of 1970. An incredible example to all, he had a genuine compassion for others. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and was active in serving those with intellectual disabilities through fundraising for LAMB. Tom was a volunteer fireman in New Jersey before moving to Ocean Isle Beach where for seventeen years he rode his scooter to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to his sister Elizabeth and her husband John of Ocean Isle Beach, he is survived by brothers, Robert Walsh and Vincent Walsh both of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and John F. Walsh, Jr. of Hoschton, Georgia; sisters, Kathy Garrity of Easton, PA, Phyllis Merlo of Phillipsburg, NJ; and Diane Smed-Edwards and Elizabeth Smed-Kleedorfer both of Ocean Isle Beach.

Family and friends are kindly invited to services at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 15, at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM, Monday, May 14, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte.
