Verna Ruth Keesee

Verna Ruth Keesee, 87, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2021. She was born on September 27, 1933 in Washington, D.C., the oldest of three children born to Vernon and Beatrice Purcell.  

Verna was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, and friends. She was known for her pure and kind heart, filled with unconditional love for everyone. She accepted God’s plan for her life even as she battled health issues in her later years. She adored her grandchildren and great granddaughter and always welcomed them into her tender, loving arms.

Verna is survived by her daughter Eva Scott of Carolina Shores, NC; sons Willard Keesee, Jr. (Wendy Black) of Shallotte, NC and Steven Keesee (Cindy) of White Plains, MD. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kandace Lesher of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Lyn Wilson of Spokane, Washington, Clayton Keesee (Katie Langley) of Charlotte Hall, MD and Megan Callahan (Ethan) of Golden, CO; and great granddaughter Alissa Austin. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Susan Cline (David) of Montgomery Village, MD. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Purcell, son David Keesee, and grandson Jason Keesee.

Verna was a long-time resident of Charles County, Maryland before moving to North Carolina in 2015. She worked at the Charles County Sheriff’s Office until her retirement in 1997.

The family will receive friends for Verna’s Life Celebration on Saturday, October 9th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Maryland Veterans Museum, 11000 Crain Highway, Newburg, MD 20664.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.

Verna will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
