Obituary
Vickie Summers Gordon 71 - February 22, 1953 - March 7, 2024
Vickie, affectionately known as a beacon of generosity and kindness who touched lives of many with her heart of gold and her beautiful smile passed away on March 7th 2024 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Bolivia, NC.
Vickie moved to Carolina Shores in 2022. Originally from Greensboro, NC, she and her late husband Delbert lived their life together there for 39 years. Delbert passed in January, 2022. It was then she started a new life at the beach with her beloved basset hound Stella. Living at the beach was a life-long dream of hers. She radiated when near the ocean but her duty as a loving wife to Delbert was her first priority.
Vickie was born in Alamance County to Roy Wilson Summers and Stella Robena Hall Summers, both deceased. It was there she learned the values of family, compassion and sharing from an early age.
Vickie graduated from Northeast Guilford High School, in 1971 and completed a long period of time working for and retiring from Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company where she was a telephone operator.
Vickie’s presence is missed deeply, and she will always be in the hearts of her family and many friends. She is survived by her older brother Leon Summers who lives in Mebane, NC, and her devoted nephews Adam Summers of Gibsonville and Bobby Summers (wife Andrea) and niece Joannie Summers (husband Jay) of Mebane, NC. Also Vickie’s family consisted of many nieces and nephews and cousins she loved dearly. Vickie was often referred to as “The Best Aunt Ever”. Vickie’s younger brother, Michael, passed in February 2020.
Vickie’s is also survived by her beloved basset hound Stella who now lives in a loving home surrounded by a remarkable mother and children and other four-legged siblings. If you remember, Vickie and Delbert had multiple other basset hounds in their lives who made their family complete.

Her family would like to thank her many doctors, nurses and staff from McLeod Seacoast Hospital and Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center; her many physicians and nurses who treated her especially the oncologist’s office of Dr. Anthony Dominick in Wilmington, NC; and the rehabilitation center that helped her return to her home. A heartfelt thank you to Jessica Dew with Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and the wonderful RN Ashley Kaishian and Robyn Fitch, social worker with the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Team.
