Obituary
Virginia Mae Rhoderbeck Averill, age 86, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, surrounded by all her children and her loving companion Sophie, at her home in Shallotte, NC.
Virginia was born on December 9, 1937, to Roy and Mabel Kemph Rhoderbeck in Port Chester, NY.
Virginia was a wonderful mother raising her seven children and later working as a secretary. Her first husband Fay died in 1971. She married Fay’s younger brother Ronald Averill in 1973. Virginia was a cancer survivor and volunteered with Relay for Life, hospice, and Brunswick Hospital. She was a member of the Shallotte Garden Club and the Briarwood Ladies’ Club. She enjoyed taking cruises and her K-9 companion, Sophie. Virginia’s faith was very important to her, she was a practicing Catholic for many years, more recently she attended Coastal Church where she had been a greeter. Her greatest role was that of matriarch to her loving family. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Virginia is survived by her seven children: son: Daniel Averill, daughters: Suzanne Henclewski (David), Michelle Robinson, Beverly Carozza-Johnson, Jacquline Averill, Kathleen Masten (Scott), and Sandra Perez (Benito); 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister: Barbara Istvan (William). In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister: Lorraine Bellantoni.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Brunswick Funeral Service, 5229 Ocean Hwy W Shallotte, NC. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jim Burns officiating and burial will be in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
