Vivienne (Viv) Jean Armstrong, 89, of Oak Island and formerly of New Bern, NC, passed away on August 9th, 2022. She was born on October 20, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to Rose and Peter Specce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward (Ed) G. Armstrong and her brother Daniel Specce.

Viv and Ed moved from Bay Shore, NY to New Bern, NC upon retiring in 1991. They became active members of Christ Episcopal Church where Viv knitted numerous prayer shawls over the years to comfort others in sickness or who had suffered a loss. After 30 years in New Bern, Viv moved to assisted living in Oak Island, NC. She greatly enjoyed and looked forward to family and holiday gatherings. Reading novels and playing card games (she was a Card Shark!) were some of her favorite hobbies. She was a strong-willed, independent woman and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her son Edward R. Armstrong (Heather) of Fayetteville, NC; daughters, Karen Wagner (Stephen Thatcher) of Southport, NC, Lynn Traverso (Richard) of Centreville, VA, and Lisa Downing (Randy) of Lowgap, NC; grandchildren: Rachel, Ryan, Megan, Amanda, Brittney and Bethaney; great grandson: Mason.

The family will hold a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 19th at Brunswick Funeral Service, 3479 Southport Supply Road, Southport/Oak Island led by Reverend (retired) Ned Beckes. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM prior to the memorial service.
