Watis Andrew Edge, 90, of Calabash, NC died Monday, March 1, 2026 peacefully at his home surrounded by family. 

A visitation will be at 1pm on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Brunswick Funeral Service in Shallotte, NC, followed by a 2pm funeral service where the eulogy will be delivered by Reverend Larry Ward.  He will be laid to rest in Brunswick Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.

Captain Andy was born in St Paul, NC and served in the US Navy. He lived the majority of his long life in Brunswick County where he ran 3 successful and well-regarded businesses: Modern Floor Covering, The Red Snapper Charter boat and Captain Andy’s Campground.

In his final years he enjoyed living life to the fullest riding in his pontoon boat, taking care of his pets and spending time with his loving longtime companion Helen Hedgepeth

He was preceded in death by his parents Nora Herring Edge and Andrew Edge, his wife Sara Ruth Edge, as well as his siblings Dolly Thames, Eura Jean Sessoms, Smithie Cox, and Cary Edge. He has one remaining living sibling, Neilly Bryant, of Lumberton, NC.

Captain Andy was known as friend to everyone and was generous to a fault not only with people lucky enough to know him but with any animal that crossed his path. Any stray that came to Captain Andy’s door was never turned away and kept a full stomach. He never knew a stranger and could talk to anyone for hours.

He is survived by five children: Kathy Smith of California, Samuel Edge of Utah, Angela Howell of Calabash, NC, Andrea Edge Anover of Apex, NC and Watis Andrew Edge Jr of Supply, NC as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In memory of Captain Andy, donations can be made to the Brunswick County Animal Protective Services at 429 Green Swamp Rd, Supply, NC 28462.
